What happens when art collides with limited resources? Re-Art. Art made out of what is available. In Cuba that often means anything from leaky bathtubs, to ancient 50's automobiles, to random shoes. But Cuban passion and creativity has gone beyond merely recycling or reusing these materials, to Re-Arting them... giving new life, new expression, and new purpose to the old.

The street of innovative art |
There is no better place to see Re-Art then Calle Jamal, where art has taken over urban planning, ignoring governmental regulations, and transforming a street into a functioning aspect of a creative community.

What Better Use for a bath tub? |
At some point in the past decade there was an abundance of bathtubs, so Calle Jamal-ites jumped at the opportunity.

Wall-tubs |
Mixing art, Marti's words, Salvador's own imagination and an empty stone wall, the space was transformed into an utterly useless, incredibly beautiful wall. To just be enjoyed.

Sink Plant |
If you have an old sink, please put a plant in it. It just makes perfect sense. The drainage water goes right out the drain and can be collected for reuse. Innovative irrigation!

Recyclero |
Its not just the strange or quirky materials that are salvaged and reused, recycling is just another aspect of consumption in Cuba, and for this man, a very profitable one.
